Amazon, Barnes & Noble.com Settle One-Click Technology Lawsuit

Rival online booksellers Amazon.com Inc. and Barnes & Noble.com settled a patent infringement lawsuit yesterday over Amazon's one-click technology.

“The lawsuit has been settled and the terms are confidential,” said Carolyn Brown, spokeswoman at Barnes & Noble.com, New York.

Filed in October 1999, the Amazon lawsuit accused Barnes & Noble.com of illegally copying technology that allows consumers to return to a site and shop with one click of the mouse without re-entering any personal and credit card data.

When introduced, the one-click technology garnered strong reactions from rival online companies, which accused Amazon of combining existing Web technologies.
