List management and brokerage concern American List Counsel Inc., Princeton, NJ, has temporarily vacated its New England office in Stamford, CT. Its four employees there, led by Todd Love, who was director of new business development, left ALC last week to join e-mail list concern Yesmail.com, Chicago.
A spokesman for ALC said the company planned to maintain an office in Stamford and was seeking to replace those who had left.
“We’re not actually closing the New England office, it’s just temporarily unoccupied,” said Eric Zilling, executive vice president at ALC. “We’re not abandoning our strategy to have a presence in Connecticut or New England.”
In addition to Love, the ALC New England office included two account executives and one customer service representative.
Zilling said that ALC’s headquarters staff in Princeton was managing the traditional postal lists that had been managed by the New England office, and Roe Johnson of ALC Interactive was handling the e-mail lists.
He said ALC already was in discussions with “a number of people” to occupy that office, where ALC has a lease through October.
“There are a lot of bright, talented direct marketing list people in Westchester County [NY] and Fairfield County [CT],” he said.
ALC also maintains an office in New York, which handles both brokerage and management, and an office in Peterborough, NH, which serves as the headquarters for its ALC Interactive division.
The disruption of the New England office caused the loss of some of ALC’s lists, including the Forbes subscribers, which included 700,000 active subscribers to Forbes Magazine and about 73,000 subscribers to five Forbes investment newsletters. The Lake Group, Rye, NY, took over the management of the Forbes lists.
Zilling said Love had brought the lists to ALC New England earlier this year.
“Forbes was very disappointed that Todd chose to move to on to another place, and I guess where they chose to go was their second choice,” he said.
