Albertson's Puts “E-shoppers” in Two More Stores

Albertson's Inc. yesterday said that it has added an e-commerce element to its supermarkets in the Washington state communities of Tacoma and Marysville.

The two stores involved will each employ five or six order pickers, dubbed “e-shoppers.” The employees will pick www.albertsons.com orders off the store shelves and deliver them in company vehicles.

The employees are part of the company's growing marketing focus on making customers feel more comfortable about online order fulfillment.

The initiative began when the company closed a building that was half online fulfillment center and half retail store in May. Then it began fulfilling orders through five Seattle-area stores.

“So far we are pleased with how it's working in Seattle,” said Jenny Enochson, spokeswoman for Albertson's, Boise, ID. “The store pickers format makes the online shopping experience as close as possible to the environment of a real store.”
