Airborne Introduces Web-Based Shipping Products

Airborne Express is unveiling a new host of Internet products called Airborne Exchange that it says will allow customers to ship online via Airborne without using special software or hardware.

The products, which will be available over the next year, are called System Exchange, Corporate Exchange, Station Exchange and Ship Exchange.

“Customers will no longer need special hardware or software,” spokesman Robert Mints said Friday.

System Exchange, which should be available in a few weeks, is designed for customers to integrate Airborne's shipping requirements into their systems via a direct interface with Airborne's main frame. This is designed for companies that ship directly to residential addresses via airborne+home, Airborne's business-to-consumer service.

Station Exchange, due out in 2001, is designed for customers that manage shipments from a computer stationed in a large mailroom or shipping dock.
