Agfa NJ Plant Gets Digital Systems

Agfa, part of Agfa-Gevaert Group, has added digital printing systems to its Branchburg, NJ, facility.

The plant's production line now includes Agfa's proprietary imaging technologies Thermostar and the N91 plate, among other upgrades. The $6 million renovation will be completed in October, with full printing operations ready by the end of the year.

Agfa expects the Branchburg plant to increase flexibility at other plants. The company, which has seven plants worldwide, said the changes reflect a growing number of printing jobs that demand digital facilities.

The announcement also follows its expansion of digital capabilities in Europe earlier this year. The Ridgefield, NJ-based firm also uses plate setters, screening technologies, image setters, scanners and other pre-press systems.

In related news, Agfa began an online service July 23 at http://support.agfa.com that includes courses in the client/server and data management categories. The firm's customers also can learn about Internet networking, professional development, Windows and other software applications.

According to Agfa, the courses were designed for professionals who want to learn about the technologies at their own pace from their home or office rather than in a formal educational setting. The site maintains a record of viewers' training history to monitor progress.
