Harold's Stores Inc., Norman, OK, announced last week that its first-quarter sales ending May 2 were up 18.1 percent, to $33.5 million compared with $28.4 million in the same period last year. Net earnings were $411,000 over last year's $127,000. The company's direct response catalog sales were $3.1 million, up 10.7 percent over last year's $2.8 million. Harold's operates the catalog division and 42 upscale men's and women's specialty stores in 17 states.
