NowSpeed Inc., Framingham, MA, last week announced its E-Mail-By-Voice service, a mobile voice-to-e-mail application that allows sales forces to access e-mail from any phone.
The service has a digital voice that reads the message to the user, who can react with a voice response that is turned into an e-mail message. Messages also can be sent as voice WAV file attachments, as well as in Adobe Acrobat and in Microsoft's Word and PowerPoint programs.
E-Mail-By-Voice can be used without changing servers and adapts to Microsoft's Exchange and Lotus' Support Notes. The system is compatible with network protocols IMAP4 and POP3.
NowSpeed plans to target multiple markets with the service, including financial, insurance and professional services companies with nationwide sales forces.
“We don't envision this as something that will replace normal e-mail, but just as a service that makes it easier to access e-mail,” said spokesman Michael Goff. “Sometimes your sales reps might be out of service range for devices like cell phones and WAP phones. In this case, our service would still allow those people to get their e-mail.”
The service costs companies 5 cents to 10 cents per minute, depending on which monthly service plan the firm chooses.
