USPS' PostalOne Project Lines Up More Participants

The U.S. Postal Service plans to add 75 facilities to its PostalOne project by the summer, the agency said this week.

PostalOne allows Standard Mail, Standard B, First-Class and periodical mailers to connect electronically with the USPS and mailing facilities and exchange mailing information, electronic documentation and postage payment in real time. The program is designed for companies that mail 300,000 to 500,000 items per day with a 1,000 tray per day minimum.

The project is in phase one of a three phase rollout, though no timetable has been set for subsequent parts. Phase one focuses on allowing mailers to file documentation electronically. The next two phases will integrate payment and transportation information.

“We are making really good progress with an aggressive deployment schedule of additional sites,” said Larry Goodman, manager of business customer support systems at the USPS.

The project has cost the agency $10.1 million and is live at seven mailing facilities, including those owned by printers Quad/Graphics, Pewaukee, WI; Quebecor World Inc., Montreal; R.R. Donnelley and Sons Co., Chicago; and Arandell, Menomonee Falls, WI.
