Here’s a great way to respond when a self-obsessed celebrity decides to diss your products in public.
Kanye West randomly picked a fight with Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh during an even more random interview with author Bret Easton Ellis. Here’s what Kanye said:
“I got into this giant argument with the head of Zappos that he’s trying to tell me what I need to focus on. Meanwhile, he sells all this shit product to everybody, his whole thing is based off of selling shit product.”
Zappos quickly saw this as an opportunity to craft a ridiculously hilarious response. First Tony Hsieh tweeted:
— Zappos.com CEO -Tony (@tonyhsieh) November 20, 2013
And the link lead to this very real product page on Zappos.com:
The product description reads:
Interested in buying sh-t product? You’ve come to the right place! Here at Zappos.com, we happily sell sh-t products to everybody! This is the throne, everyone has been watching. Whether you’re #1 or #2, your clique will show no mercy, even in Paris.
Now that’s just a lesson in great PR, completely nullifying the criticism, and making it funny enough to be shared endlessly on social media. Bravo Zappos. Your move Kanye.
