You can now use ‘remote control tourists’ to virtually explore the city of Melbourne

Robots are taking over the digital media world as people use them to create virtual experiences for users who wouldn’t be able to do it themselves. In this case, they’re not quite robots but “remote control tourists,” two humans equipped with a bunch of gadgets so you can experience what they experience.

Taking a page from San Pellegrino’s virtual robot tour of Italy, the tourism board in the Australian state of Victoria is creating a live, interactive way for tourists to “road test” their holidays.  It has hired a team of four travelers, outfitted with video cameras who will respond to members of the public on social media, dictating their travelling actions. You can then virtually experience the sights and sounds of Melbourne through video feeds from the “remote control tourists” on the campaign’s website.
