Yesmail.com to Lay Off 14 Percent of Work Force

E-mail marketer yesmail.com, Chicago, will lay off 24 employees, or 14 percent of its work force, because of a “downturn in current market conditions,” the company said yesterday.

Chris Clemmensen, yesmail.com's vice president of marketing, said the company's direct sales force will be the hardest hit. No other layoffs are planned, he said.

Yesmail.com, like ad targeting network Engage Inc., is owned by Internet incubator CMGI Inc., one of the companies hardest hit by the slowdown in online ad spending.

Yesmail was founded in 1995 as WebPromote and in April 1999 changed its name to yesmail.com. It became an operating company of CMGI in March last year.
