Yahoo’s Social Search Campaign Starts With Questions

Yahoo launched its Ask the Planet 2006 free social search service campaign yesterday by addressing some of the world’s biggest questions in the Hard Rock Cafe in New York’s Times Square.

This service, available at http://answers.yahoo.com, relies solely on the collective knowledge of consumers worldwide and their willingness to answer with information about anything and everything. All a person has to do is ask, and, ideally, someone will supply an answer.

“The Ask the Planet promotion is significant because social search provides better search through people,” said Andy Renieris, product manager for Yahoo Canada Search. “With Yahoo Answers, users can better find, use, share and expand all human knowledge.”

People may stop at Military Island in Times Square until July 10 and use the computers available to ask or answer any question on Yahoo Answers. Celebrities such as wellness guru Deepak Chopra, political columnist Arianna Huffington and former vice president Al Gore will make guest appearances at the island.

Author Marilyn Vos Savant began the event by asking, “What can parents do to help their children reach their potential in school?”

Yahoo Answers is available in countries including Australia, Canada, India, Britain, United States, Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Singapore and Spain.
