Yahoo Offers Personalized Content on Cell Phones

Yahoo made Internet search and other services available on cell phones as of Aug. 30. Consumers can download the Yahoo Go for Mobile service onto Microsoft’s Windows Mobile operating systems.

The Yahoo Go for Mobile services available on Windows smart phones give users access to Yahoo news, photo albums and calendars.

“Yahoo Go is a personalized, Internet-based suite of Yahoo services that allows users to connect to their content regardless of location or device,” said Nicole Leverich, a Yahoo spokesperson. “Today’s launch expands the reach of Yahoo Go for Mobile by bringing it to millions of consumers around the world who use Windows Mobile-powered phones. It also furthers global distribution deals with leading device manufacturers including Motorola, Nokia and RIM.”

The Sunnyvale, CA, company said its services will be available on millions of phones worldwide. In addition, Yahoo has been signing deals with cell phone manufacturers to imbed Go for Mobile software on new devices.

In July, Motorola agreed to pre-install Yahoo’s Internet search capability, e-mail and address book on its new mobile telephones from the first half of 2007. The deal will make Yahoo Go for Mobile a standard feature on Motorola cellular phones in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The service is available for download at http://go.yahoo.com/mobile.

“The vision behind Yahoo Go is to offer an integrated suite of service that synchronizes consumers’ information and content across their mobile phone, television and PC desktop,” Ms. Leverich said.
