Yahoo lowering minimum bids on some keywords

According to its search marketing blog, Yahoo is beginning to lower minimum bids on some keywords. The number two in search cites the economy as the driving force behind the decision.

“You don’t need a TV to tell you that times are tough—you just have to take a look at your marketing budget,” the post says, “Money is tight for everyone these days. So we thought you’d want to know about some changes that we hope will help lower your costs and increase your clicks.”

Mark Simon, VP of industry relations at Didit said, “We’re living through a time when industries as wide-ranging as automotive and housing need to sell at huge discounts. Search engines, it seems, are feeling the same need as well…This move will help search advertisers see their search ads activated on terms that, in the past, their keyword bids were too low for their ads to appear at all. But make no mistake—Yahoo will also get additional revenue from those ads that hadn’t been listed before.”
