Yahoo and Spinway Form Alliance for Free Net Access

In a move to attract more customers, Yahoo agreed yesterday to couple its services with Spinway.com, a free Internet service provider, to sell packages to retailers and other companies seeking to offer Internet access.

By increasing its participation in the growing free Internet access arena, Yahoo hopes to increase its own traffic. Yahoo, Santa Clara, CA, will provide content and Web services, including its My Yahoo personalization feature, free e-mail, instant messaging, and video and art streaming.

In December, Yahoo and Spinway, Sunnyvale, CA, partnered with Kmart Corp.’s BlueLight.com e-commerce site to offer free Internet access and content, a partnership that created 2.5 million customers. Yahoo and Spinway are considering a deal to offer free Internet service for toy retailer Toys “R” Us, according to reports.
