Worldata/Webconnect Debuts Opt-in E-Mail Exchange

Following the lead of the successful banner exchange businesses on the Net, Worldata/Webconnect will launch the first free opt-in e-mail exchange program, called the Worldata Exchange, on Dec. 1.

The program works like this: A Web site owner puts a checkbox on their site. For every person who checks the box-thereby opting in-the Web site owner gets two free opt-in e-mail addresses that they can market to. These targeted addresses will come from sites that offer similar products or services.

Participants will have an account at www.worldataexchange.com, where they can see how many addresses are credited to their account.

To use the e-mail addresses, users must go to the send messages area of the site to enter their content, product offering or special promotion.

By January, there will be as many as 1,000 member sites, according to Jay Schwedelson, corporate vice president for Worldata/WebConnect, Boca Ration, FL. Additionally, he expects to have 1 million names by the end of first quarter 2000.
