Winneker Eyes E-commerce After 8 Years at WCJ Chicago

Allan Winneker's recent announcement that it was time for him “to enter a new phase in his personal and professional life,” comes after having successfully forged Wunderman Cato Johnson Chicago into a promotional and direct marketing powerhouse with a clear global presence in fully integrated marketing communications solutions.

Under Winneker's tenure as president/CEO of Wunderman Cato Johnson Chicago, the office saw exceptional growth in profits and maturity as it delivered marketing solutions to a blue-chip client roster including Citibank, Xerox, Sears, Tricon Restaurants, Lincoln Mercury and United Airlines.

Regarding the future, Winneker told DM News last week that he was keeping his options open. He says he knows he wants to do something else, “but I'm not in a hurry. I'm looking at new challenges, maybe as a consultant or CEO of an Internet-type company. I just think the whole area of e-commerce is really exciting. There's a lot of high energy there, it's where things are going to be happening.”

John R. Bingle, chairman/CEO of Wunderman Cato Johnson said that Allan's contributions to the business in Chicago have been considerable and include supporting the growth of the Taco Bell business at WCJ Irvine and the reconfiguration of the company's two operations in Toronto.

Reflecting on the incredible changes and advances in the industry that have occurred for direct marketers during his time at WCJ, Winneker noted how much database technology today is allowing, permitting and providing the capability for clients to do more integration, more targeted one-to-one marketing.

But he warns that increased technology has lead to more consumers “becoming more concerned and more inclined to ask 'just how much does the whole world of marketers really know about me?' “
