Windows Phone is finally getting the Instagram and Vine apps

It may have been dragged kicking and screaming into it, but Instagram is finally coming to Microsoft and Nokia’s Windows Phone.

Nokia announced the news at the unveiling of its new Windows-based devices at Nokia World in Dubai today, The launch focused on the new Lumia 1520 and 1320 smartphones, as well a cheaper line of phones.

Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom confirmed the news in a statement. “Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it,” he said. “We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.”

Nokia also announced the addition of several other popular apps including Instagram competitor Vine, EA Sports FIFA 14, Temple Run 2 and Xbox Video

The lack of an Instagram app for Windows has been frustrating for Nokia, especially since the marketing for Lumia has focused so much on its great camera hardware and superior photo-taking abilities. Although it has made do with competing photo-sharing apps such as Oggl from Hipstamatic, the addition of Instagram would go some way in giving it the cool-kid credibility it wants so badly in the smartphone market.
