WellCare Postpones Key Marketing Campaigns

Citing the need to re-evalute its operations, WellCare Management Group Inc., parent of WellCare of New York Inc. and WellCare of Connecticut Inc., Friday voluntarily canceled all advertising and marketing campaign efforts associated with enrollment of Medicaid patients at its member facilities.

Kiran C. Patel, M.D., chairman/CEO of WellCare, Kingston, NY, said the company’s management “made the decision to temporarily cease the marketing and enrollment in our Child Health Plus and Healthy Choice products in order to allow us time to fully evaluate current operations and implement a business strategy that will assure WCNY Medicaid members of a high level of quality service and care.”

WellCare's service area extends from New York to the southern Adirondacks, west into the Mohawk River Valley and Southern Tier counties and east into Connecticut.

The company said enrollment in its Child Health Plus and its Healthy Choice products will be officially discontinued as of April 17. However, it promised WCNY would continue to enroll members whose applications were received prior to that date.

Patel said WellCare was working with the New York Department of Health on completion of the evaluation as well as implementation of a final business plan. “It is our goal to complete all of the above and begin marketing these WCNY products within a period of 60 to 90 days,” she said.
