WebTV Hits One Out of the Park for Baseball Fans

Baseball fans in the San Francisco Bay area with WebTV Plus experienced Friday the first interactive sporting event on a local level.

During Friday night's matchup between the Oakland A's and the Boston Red Sox, which aired on Fox Sports Net, viewers were able to access team lineups, player profiles and game, season and career statistics for the two teams, as well as scores from other games nationwide.

The interactivity is a test that will continue through 23 additional A's games this season. The test is part of an agreement between ACS Sports.Com Inc., New York, which runs the A's Web site and Microsoft's WebTV Networks, Mountain View, CA.

Future features of this interactivity could include alternative camera angles, real-time pitch-speed meters and t-commerce applications.
