This past spring a handful of companies and firms decided to zero in on the emerging Web video marketing field. On Monday, the Web Video Marketing Council launched its Web site and made its debut.
The Council, which is made up of three companies and two consulting firms in the interactive marketing industry, was established as an educational resource for marketers. It was also created in response to the tremendous growth in online video viewing and marketing.
“Everyone is addressing it, but no one is specifically focusing on it,” said Jennifer O’Meara, marketing director for WVMC. Other organizations, such as the Direct Marketing Association, merely included Web video marketing in their repertoire, but O’Meara said they wanted to make it their sole issue.
“We hope to be able to help the industry to define what Web video marketing is, and to help to work directly with marketers to help propel Web video marketing as a marketing strategy,” O’Meara stressed.
As part of its debut, the Hopkinton, MA-based WVMC has authored a white paper titled, “Web Video Marketing: The Birth of a New Online Marketing Application.”
The Web Video Marketing Council’s site at www.webvideomarketing.org also includes examples of popular video marketing campaigns and provides an online news service with articles related to the video marketing industry.
The Council has written guidelines and gives general information as a free service. Individual membership in the Web Video Marketing Council is free.
Companies involved in the online video marketing industry also can become a sponsor to participate in the development and governance of the new organization.
Ultimately, O’Meara said, the organization wants to engage all companies involved with Web video marketing.
“This includes video publishing sites, marketers and advertisers, and video content creators,” she said.
