Walmart.com No. 1 Visited Site Among Bricks-and-Mortar Brands

Walmart.com attracted the most number of visitors among online stores owned by bricks-and-mortar retailers, according to a Nielsen//NetRatings survey released yesterday.

Survey results showed that unique visitors on Walmart.com in June numbered 2.039 million, up 133 percent from 875,000 visitors in the same month a year ago.

JCpenney.com was a close second, with 2 million visitors in June, up 34 percent from 1.489 million visitors in June 2000.

Kmart Corp.’s BlueLight.com, target.com and sears.com respectively recorded 1.649 million, 1.629 million and 1.598 million — up 36 percent, 142 percent and 23 percent in that order for June 2001 versus June 2000.

Apparel was the top revenue earner, followed by home and garden, toys, health and beauty, and video, according to the study that surveyed 37,000 online users. Harris Interactive eCommercePulse was part of this survey.

“The top five brick-and-mortar mass retailers are enjoying success in converting their regular offline customers to online shoppers, even matching and exceeding 34 percent year-over-year growth of online giant, Amazon.com,” Sean Kaldor, vice president of analytical services at NetRatings, said.
