Wal-Mart Stores Inc. named John Fleming president/CEO of walmart.com yesterday, more than a year after Jeanne Jackson's departure was announced in November 2001.
Fleming was appointed chief operating officer in November 2001 after joining Brisbane, CA-based walmart.com a year earlier as chief merchant in charge of buying merchandising and managing supplier relations.
Fleming will report to Tom Schoewe, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, AK.
A recent USA Today article said walmart.com was the fifth-most-visited online shopping destination after eBay, Amazon, Yahoo Shopping and MSN Shopping for the week ending Dec. 1. The online retailer reported strong sales of toys, electronics and home items this holiday season, with increased traffic and revenue over last year.
