Wall Street Journal to Add Weekly Spanish Section to Hoy

The Wall Street Journal will start a Spanish-language edition next month as an eight-page weekly insert in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles, the newspaper said yesterday.

The new section will be published Thursdays in Tribune Co.'s Spanish-language Hoy dailies in those cities. The Journal already provides a weekly section to The Washington Hispanic in Washington, DC, and has published a daily Spanish-language section, The Wall Street Journal Americas, in Latin American partner newspapers since 1994. That circulates to 1.7 million readers in newspapers in 16 countries.

The Journal expects to add more partners in the coming weeks, said William E. Casey Jr., vice president/special editions.

Under the banner name “The Wall Street Journal,” the section will consist of eight tabloid pages of Spanish-language editorial content and advertising. The focus will be personal finance and technology, careers, small business and other financial information directed to Hispanics.

Stories will be selected, translated and paginated by a dedicated team of Journal editors, with access to the entire global content of The Wall Street Journal, The Asian Wall Street Journal, The Wall Street Journal Europe, The Wall Street Journal Americas and The Wall Street Journal Sunday.
