Vivendi Buys Online Gaming Company Uproar for $140M

Flipside, a subsidiary of Vivendi Universal, Paris, yesterday acquired online gaming company Uproar Inc., New York, for $140 million.

The deal is expected to close by March 31. Flipside agreed to pay $3 per share for outstanding Uproar stock.

The combined company is expected to produce $70 million in revenue this year, according to Uproar. Using Media Metrix data, Uproar estimated that the combined entity would have had a total audience of 14.7 million unique users in December 2000.

The companies will deliver more than 1 billion advertising impressions per month combined, Uproar said.

Uproar suffered financial setbacks last year. Its stock price fell from $35 a share in March to a low of 75 cents per share on Dec. 28. Uproar's stock traded at approximately $3 late yesterday afternoon, up from $2 at the previous day's close.

Uproar's entertainment properties include Family Feud, Trivia Blitz and 13 international Web sites. It operates several sites that generate revenue through advertising, including uproar.com, amused.com and iwin.com.
