Vitacost names Gilt Groupe vet CMO

Health-products retailer Vitacost.com has named David Zucker CMO, effective immediately. He will replace Sonya Lambert in the role.

Zucker most recently served as CMO of Gilt Groupe. He worked as global director of CRM and implementation at Dell from 2006 to 2009 and as VP of CRM at Home Shopping Network from 2004 to 2006. He has also held senior positions at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia and Priceline.com.

Vitacost.com did not specify a reason for Lambert’s departure. She had served as the company’s CMO since March 2010. She joined the company as director of marketing in 2003 and was named VP of marketing a year later.

Vitacost reported net sales of $65.9 million in the second quarter, a 22% increase compared with the second quarter of 2010. However, it also saw a Q2 net loss of $3.7 million, a 164.3% decrease in profits compared with the second quarter of 2010. Sales and marketing expenses in the period were $5.2 million.

Jeffrey Horowitz, CEO of Vitacost, said Zucker will “play a key role in driving our business and better position” the e-retailer.

A Vitacost representative was not immediately available for comment.
