Vicki Godfrey is an experienced CMO with a broad range of B2B and B2C marketing experience. She is currently CMO of Avention, where she leads its global marketing organization.
Prior to Avention, Godfrey ran her own marketing and research company, Godfrey Research. She’s also served as CMO of Zipcar, led global branding for Monster.com, and developed and managed the teen business for Polaroid.

Defining moment: I have taught marketing at Tufts University in a master’s program for engineers for many years. This experience helped me understand the way other functions view marketing and propelled my cross-functional and collaboration skills.
Advice to young marketers: Spend time in various roles in a marketing department so you can learn how all the pieces fit together, and spend time with your sales colleagues. Marketing and sales alignment has never been more important, and a successful marketer will not only understand how to drive revenue within the marketing team, but will also understand how to work with sales to accelerate that revenue even faster.
