Versaware, an Internet and electronic publisher, said recently that 62 percent of the college students it polled regarding their needs and expectations for eTextbooks said they would choose an electronic textbook over a new print textbook.
The finding is one of the results of a nationwide survey conducted by Versaware, New York. Students from 63 colleges in 22 states were polled.
The survey also covered the specific features students want in eTextbooks.
More than 70 percent of the students surveyed said the following features would be “very important” in a decision to purchase: the ability to instantly search and integrate information from anywhere on the Web (75 percent); getting updates as publishers provide them (73 percent); not having to carry heavy textbooks (72 percent); the ability to conduct customized searches in one book, or in collections of books and papers (71 percent); the ability to organize research in personally labeled binders (71 percent); and the ability to highlight text (71 percent).
