Verizon Wireless Wins Ban on 2 Telemarketers

Verizon Wireless said Friday that it won a permanent injunction against two telemarketers, barring the companies from making illegal calls to cell phone customers.

Verizon Wireless sued telemarketing companies Intelligent Alternatives, San Diego, and Resort Marketing Trends, Coral Springs, FL, on Aug. 31. The lawsuits claimed the companies illegally solicited its wireless customers using auto dialers and prerecorded messages, violating the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act and state laws.

Separate settlements between Verizon Wireless and the firms were reached, and both have been banned permanently from making calls to Verizon Wireless customers by using auto dialers and prerecorded messages, as is prohibited by law. Intelligent Alternatives also will pay $20,000 in damages, which Verizon Wireless will donate to the Family Justice Center Foundation in San Diego on behalf of its HopeLine program for domestic violence prevention.

The agreement with Resort Marketing Trends was reached Sept. 26 and entered in Somerset County, NJ, State Superior Court. The agreement with Intelligent Alternatives was reached Oct. 27 and entered in State Superior Court on Nov. 29 in Sacramento, CA.
