Verizon promotes paperless billing, green initiatives

Verizon has launched the “Great Paper Escape” sweepstakes and integrated campaign to promote its online billing service and overall environmental efforts.

The communications company worked with integrated marketing agency Communefx on the effort.

To raise awareness of the sweepstakes, and the environmental benefits of online billing, Verizon will launch an e-mail marketing campaign targeting existing customers September 1, when it will also begin posting banner ads throughout MyVerizon.com.

The campaign will also include promotional banners and transactional promotions through the end of this year.

The company’s goal is to enroll a quarter-million customers to sign up to receive their bills online.

“The main goals for us are to really promote the fact that customers can obtain their bills electronically and help out the environment at the same time,” said Mark Studness, director of e-commerce at Verizon.

Consumers who sign up to receive and pay their bills online by December 31 will be entered to win a grand prize of $10,000. Customers already enrolled in paperless billing will also receive sweepstakes entries.

Consumers can also play a daily instant win game for prizes, including environmentally friendly tote bags, an energy efficient washer-dryer combo, a $50 Verizon Perks gift card and a Trek Eco Urban bicycle. Consumers can enter the sweepstakes at GreatPaperEscape.verizon.com or myverizon.com.

Studness added that the goal of the daily prize giveaways is to drive customer engagement.

“We want to encourage people to come back often,” he said.
