Veritas Software Taps Hill, Holliday/SF

Veritas Software has named Hill, Holliday/San Francisco its worldwide advertising agency of record to develop campaigns touting the necessity of storage software.

An undisclosed number of agencies sought the assignment, including finalists Doremus, San Francisco, and Leo Burnett USA, Chicago. Incumbent Dayner/Hall, Orlando, FL, did not pitch again. Billings are estimated at $10 million to $15 million.

“The mandate from the client is to 'make sure who we are and what we do,'” said Nancy Hill, president of Hill, Holliday/San Francisco. “They've been known in the space of backup and recovery, and they're also a provider when it comes to storage space, especially storage area networks.”

The nation's largest storage software vendor, Veritas, Mountain View, CA, operates in an industry projected to grow to $10.7 billion by 2005, according to IDC. Veritas targets segments like storage visualization and area management, disaster recovery and enterprise data protection.

Campaigns will focus on raising brand awareness.

“At this point, we're considering everything — online direct marketing to more traditional media like direct mail and [advertising in] technical publications and business-decision publications,” Hill said.

Part of Interpublic Group of Companies Inc., New York, Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos Inc. is based in Boston. That office and outposts in San Francisco and New York contribute to agency billings of $1 billion.
