The U.S. Postal Service has begun testing commercial presort software to be sure these products work in accordance with the newly written Presort Accuracy and Evaluation (PAVE) tests.
The postal service had to rewrite PAVE standards to meet the requirements of the new rates, and mailers use PAVE-certified presort software to address, barcode and presort their mailings. Presort software vendors must be PAVE-certified by the time the new rates are implemented on Jan. 10 and were notified by the USPS in a variety of direct mailings earlier this year that they should get their products to the postal service to be tested by mid-August. Mailers have until Jan. 1 to get their products tested by the USPS.
“We were pleased that we were able to make this available as early as we did,” said Michael Murphy, manager of address management at the USPS, “and we will look for a steady flow of incoming packages from vendors and get them turned around as soon as we can.”
This is good news to postal software vendors, who were concerned that the USPS would not be ready in time for the rate implementation.
