The U.S. Postal Service will deploy the MicroStrategy Business Intelligence Platform enterprise-wide for reporting, analysis and information delivery, MicroStrategy Inc., a business intelligence software firm, said late Monday.
MicroStrategy, McLean, VA, sold $5 million worth of software licenses, education and support services to the USPS in June, its largest deal in three years and an expansion from its commercial base into government-related sales. The USPS also acquired options to procure consulting services, education and support services over the next five years.
“The postal service is investing in business intelligence to improve the service we provide our customers as well as the efficiency of our operations,” said Robert Otto, chief technology officer, USPS. “This platform will eventually be used by up to 30,000 employees to enhance efficiencies in areas that include retail, financial and network operations, transportation logistics and supply-chain management.”
The USPS has used MicroStrategy programs on a smaller scale for about three years.
Analysts said the deal will help MicroStrategy gain valuable credibility in the government market by showing that it could work with government agencies and close a major deal.
MicroStrategy anticipates that a majority of the $5 million will be accrued in its second-quarter results, scheduled to be announced July 29.
