USPS Sets Delivery Record for Overnight First-Class Mail

According to results released by auditor Price Waterhouse, 94 percent of First-Class mail arrived overnight between March and mid-May.

Postmaster General William J. Henderson attributed the 2-point increase to focused attention on service, increased efficiency and the latest technology. For 14 straight quarters, he said, the postal service has improved over the previous year's result and this number is a new record.

The study also found that 94 of the 96 cities measured had an overnight result of 90 percent or better and that every one of the top 10 major metropolitan areas finished at 92 percent or above in local mail service.

Erie and Harrisburg, PA, and Van Nuys, CA, received top honors with 96 percent.
