USPS Proposes BPM Manual Correction

The U.S. Postal Service Friday proposed a correction to the Domestic Mail Manual that requires mailers to separate Bound Printed Matter into bundles sorted by five-digit ZIP codes in order to receive the discounted destination delivery unit rate.

The manual already includes this requirement for Parcel Direct mailings prepared for the DDU rate, but a similar requirement for BPM mail was inadvertently left out, the USPS said. Both Parcel Direct and BPM mail are part of the Package Services mail category, which under postal standards must be separated by five-digit ZIP codes for DDU entry.

The postal service is accepting written comments before Sept. 2 to Manager, Mailing Standards, USPS, 1735 N. Lynn St., Room 3025, Arlington, VA 22209-6038, or by fax to Daniel Leonard at 202/268-5293.
