USPS Prepares to Deliver 15 Billion Pieces of Holiday Mail

Bulk mailers, be sure to check your holiday mailing deadlines. The Postal Service is expecting an especially busy Christmas season. Some 15 billion pieces of mail, including more than 500 million packages, will flow through the U.S. Mail system this year, a 10.5% increase over 2014, according to USPS estimates released today. Some 30,000 additional workers will be added to handle the load.

New this year will be real-time delivery notifications (above). Customers who sign up for the program at www.myusps.com will receive email alerts within minutes of the delivery scans made by their letter carriers.

The notification service will be featured in a national ad campaign that adjusts last year’s tagline to say, “One more reason this is our season.”

The aforementioned deadlines for mailers:

Nov. 7:    APO/FPO/DPO Standard Post

Dec. 8:    Priority Mail Express International

Dec. 15:  Standard Post

Dec. 19:  First Class Mail

Dec. 19:  Global Express Guaranteed
