USPS Plan Simplifies Merged 5-Digit Pallets

The U.S. Postal Service published a proposed ruling yesterday in the Federal Register that would let mailers merge the following types of mail onto the same five-digit pallet: flat-size and irregular parcel mail pieces, five-digit presort destination packages of flat-size mail pieces not meeting the criteria for the automated flat sorting machine 100, and five-digit presort destination packages of irregular parcel mail pieces.

The change would improve operational efficiencies and increase customer service, the USPS said.

In the notice, the USPS requested that mailers submit comments on the ruling by May 26. To read the proposal in full, visit: http://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/14mar20010800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2004/04-9415.htm
