USPS Issues Periodicals Rule

The U.S. Postal Service adopted a final rule requiring the preparation of origin mixed area distribution center (ADC) bundles and sacks effective July 6.

Mailers are expected to separate some mixed ADC mail by the ZIP code in labeling list L201. A process assistant at the entry office then processes those pieces that mailers prepare as L201 along with First Class mail.

Anything destined for ZIP codes further than the office of entry is sent to one of 34 facilities that label L009 for consolidated processing.

The postal service on Oct. 27 offered mailers an option to prepare origin mixed ADC bundles and sacks. This was a result of an ongoing effort to improve service for Periodicals mail. This now has been mandated for Periodicals.
