USPS Forms Task Force to Look at Remittance Mail

The U.S. Postal Service appointed 14 industry experts to its new Remittance Mail Advisory Committee to offer suggestions on improving its business and operational alignment with the remittance industry.

Remittance mail is the segment of First-Class mail made up of payments typically enclosed in courtesy reply envelopes. When combined with the outgoing bills and statements, bill and remittance mail accounts for an estimated 50 billion pieces of mail, 49 percent of items sent First Class, the USPS said.

Each committee member has expertise in remittance processing and operations. Charles Kelly, wholesale remittance manager at Wausau Financial Systems, Mosinee, WI, will serve as chairman.

In other news, postmaster general John E. Potter named two new officers at the postal service. Lynn Malcolm is now vice president, finance, controller. Susan Plonkey is now vice president, service and market development.
