USPS Closes MRC Center in San Francisco

The U.S. Postal Service will close its San Francisco Mail Recovery Center on Sept. 13, shifting the work to remaining centers in Atlanta and St. Paul, MN.

MRCs determine the disposition of First-Class Mail and packages that are undeliverable as addressed with no return address; First-Class Mail and packages that lack sufficient postage and a return address; and items damaged because of improper packaging or found loose in the mail stream and the owner is unknown.

The USPS said the San Francisco center had the least amount of mail and the smallest staff.
