USPS Begins Billboard Program in Big Apple

The U.S. Postal Service launched a billboard campaign at two postal buildings in Manhattan last week to promote the agency's expedited services, though the space eventually will be sold to other advertisers.

The billboards feature three-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong of the USPS Pro Cycling Team along with USPS expedited services. One billboard says: “Fast. Efficient. Unbeatable.” The other reads: “Totally obsessed with time.”

The USPS' Postal Ad Network team launched the billboard. The Postal Ad Network is a program begun this year that offers advertising space on USPS collection boxes, Priority and Express mail packaging, stamp books, Web sites and postal buildings.

The postal service owns and leases real estate throughout the United States and looks to use these facilities to generate new revenue.

“We own some prime real estate and are continuously looking to further customer satisfaction,” said David Solomon, vice president, Area Operations, New York Metro. “We already offer our customers a valuable media in direct mail and now offer new out-of-home advertising media to complement this.”
