USAA launches e-commerce loyalty program

USAA, a provider of financial services to current and former members of the US Armed Forces and their families, has launched an online loyalty program called USAA MemberShop.

The program, created with loyalty shopping solutions provider Mall Networks, enables consumers to earn between 1% and 20% of their cash back or points on each dollar spent online with nearly 500 brand-name merchants. Those merchants include Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Home Depot, JCPenneyOverstock.com and Staples.

MemberShop is available to all of USAA’s 7.2 million members by logging in at www.usaa.com/membershop. MemberShop users can browse and search for more than 15 million items by retailer name, type of item or model number at the site

James Reed, director of product management at USAA Alliance Services, said that members do not necessarily need to use their USAA Federal Savings Bank debit or credit cards to make purchases. However, Reed said those who do will receive a greater percentage of points or cash back.

“In today’s economy, we want to help members get better values and save money by allowing them to continue buying the name brands they’ve always bought,” he said. “This program makes that more economically feasible.”

He continued that the increasing proliferation of e-commerce made it a good time to launch the program.

The organization is promoting the program on its homepage, through inserts in credit and debit card statements, in e-mails and newsletters to members, and in USAA’s magazines, which are published quarterly.
