‘USA Today’ launches Insider Club

USA Today launched a savings club on October 20, offering members wide-ranging discounts and special offers. The USA Today Insider Club boasts more than 500,000 discounts at 200,000 locations across the country.

Entertainment Publications, the creators of the “Entertainment” discount books, is managing the program.

USA Today will promote the Insider Club through promotional ads in its newspaper and on its website, as well as through the company’s mobile applications. It will alert new subscribers about the club when they purchase a print or e-edition subscription, and promote it to current subscribers through their billing notices.

Offers range from discounted movie tickets and meals to special deals from retailers including Canon, Samsung and Ray-Ban. Members can search for discounts by Zip Code, vendor or type of product or service, such as “golf” or “Middle Eastern food.” USA Today‘s goal is to make the offers appeal to a wide range of consumers.

“In today’s economy, everyone is looking for a deal, and we hope to be a valuable resource for those bargain shoppers,” said Heidi Zimmerman, director of communications at USA Today. “We have a variety of offers in travel, entertainment and retail, so we expect to appeal to all types of consumers.”

Members can enter information about anniversaries, birthdays, bill payments and upcoming vacations through the service’s “reminder center,” which will send them timely promotions to coincide with these events.

New members can pay $7.95 per month for access to the site, while current subscribers to USA Today can purchase membership for only $3.95 per month.

“We hope to engage our customers so they become more involved with the USA Today brand and think of us when they are searching for deals to make their lives easier,” said Zimmerman.
