Urban Outfitters Sales Rise 50% in Q4

Urban Outfitters Inc., owner of brands under its own name and Anthropologie and Free People, yesterday reported a 50 percent year-to-year increase in fourth-quarter net sales to $176.1 million.

Fourth-quarter net income at the Philadelphia retailer also rose 120 percent to $18.4 million compared with the same three months last year.

The improvements resulted from several increases: 110 percent in direct sales, 29 percent in wholesale sales, 23 percent in the number of new stores and 21 percent in total company comparable-store sales.

Comp-store sales, for stores open at least a year, at Anthropologie rose 22 percent and Urban Outfitters 21 percent compared with 5 percent and 3 percent increases in the same quarter last fiscal year.
