Canadian eBay users can ship goods more easily to buyers in or out of Canada via UPS or Canada Post thanks to package shipping services announced yesterday.
Canada Post debuted an online shipping solution for eBay Canada and PayPal customers. Canadian eBay users who list items on eBay.ca can create, buy and print Canada Post shipping labels with postage right from their computer. Packages can be mailed at any Canadian post office or street letterbox. Pitney Bowes Inc., Stamford, CT, provides the technology.
UPS, the Atlanta-based carrier, said that by integrating its service options directly into the Canadian eBay site, as is the case on eBay's U.S. site, users can ship within Canada and internationally with just one click.
The UPS shipping tools let eBay sellers calculate costs, request a UPS pickup, track shipments, review transit times and print shipping labels all at the point of transaction. International and domestic UPS shipping labels can be paid for via PayPal, an online payment system. Benefits to eBay buyers include the ability to control costs using the time-in-transit and service calculator tools to determine which UPS service to select.
According to eBay, 724,000 eBay sellers in North America rely on such sales for their main or secondary income. Another 1.5 million individuals say they supplement their income by selling through eBay. Among sole proprietors, 77 percent credit eBay for extending their geographic reach.
“The integration of UPS's shipping tools for Canadian users on eBay Canada will help simplify intra-Canadian and cross-border trading for our members,” said Elmer Sotto, head of marketplace development, eBay Canada. “Our community of users has asked for more shipping capabilities, and we are delighted to team up with UPS to respond to their request.”
