UPS Adds Distribution Centers in China

United Parcel Service opened three warehouse and distribution centers in Shanghai, Suzhou and Futian and plans another 20 facilities in major cities in China over the next two years, the Atlanta company said yesterday.

The new facilities are part of an effort to further link China to markets worldwide, UPS said. Each is adjacent to manufacturing centers, and they expand to more than 40 the number of logistics centers operated in China by UPS Supply Chain Solutions, the supply chain management arm of UPS.

UPS Supply Chain Solutions sites in China distribute textiles/apparel, high-tech, automotive and consumer goods for export and import.

The 160,000-square-foot Shanghai facility is in the Wai Gao Qiao Free Trade Zone. UPS has three other distribution centers in Shanghai for a total of about 400,000 square feet.

In Futian, the new 240,000-square-foot bonded warehouse and full distribution center also is in a Free Trade Zone. The 66,000-square-foot Suzhou facility is designed for high-tech customers.

UPS has served logistics needs of clients in China since 1988. UPS Supply Chain Solutions' offerings now include freight forwarding, order and inventory management, shipment preparation, cross-dock operations, critical parts distribution, service parts logistics, international trade management, customs brokerage and domestic transportation services.
