UK Execs Form Catalog, Home Shopping Trade Group

A group of senior players in the United Kingdom's catalog and home shopping sector formed a trade group yesterday called The Catalogue Exchange.

“The interests of catalog and multichannel businesses are not represented elsewhere. If through this initiative we can all pull together, along with the key suppliers who have pledged their support, we will be able to help all member businesses achieve greater profitability,” founder/board member Nigel Swabey said in a statement.

Swabey is chairman of DMer First Resources, which operates 12 catalogs in the UK.

In addition to professional advice and chat rooms, the exchange offers members the option to provide full details of their customer lists and insert opportunities that they are willing to exchange with others. The group expects this option to attract more businesses to the exchange and help all members develop more cost-effective customer recruitment programs.

Through its Web site, www.catalogueexchange.co.uk, members also may access a database of white papers and how-to articles, a supplier database and discounts on various products and services. As the membership expands, Swabey aims to have The Catalogue Exchange serve as a lobbying group as well.

Daily management of the association will be handled by Jane Revell-Higgins of CatEx Management Ltd., Ilfracombe, North Devon.

There are three levels of membership: Platinum membership costs $4,750 plus VAT annually and is limited to one per catalog category; gold will run $2,750 plus VAT annually; silver costs $950 plus VAT.
