The Read Group, which maintains a list of deceased consumers in the United Kingdom, launched its service yesterday in Canada, the company said.
Known as the Bereavement Register Canada, marketers can use the list to remove the names of deceased persons in Canada from their mailing and telemarketing lists and databases.
Consumers can add names to the list free of charge on the Web at the-bereavement-register.ca or by filing an application at participating funeral homes, the company said.
The Read Group, Toronto, launched a Bereavement Register in the United Kingdom three years ago. The list stops 43 million direct marketing solicitations to the deceased each year in the United Kingdom, where 90 percent of all deaths are reported to the register, according to the company.
