Twitter to Hire a CMO

Jack Dorsey’s shakeup of Twitter proceeds apace. Over the weekend media chief Katie Jacobs and product head Kevin Weil left the company with their next destinations unknown, according to a report in Re/Code, the website run by former Wall Street Journal “Personal Technology” columnist Walt Mossberg.

Twitter is expected to announce the appointment of a CMO who hails from a leading consumer brand company this week. The front-runner for the job, according to Re/code, is American Express marketing EVP Leslie Berland. Ironically, Berland helped substantiate her front-runner status, the publication said, by recently taking to Twitter to follow several company executives and Dorsey’s mother.

Stanton had been laboring to remake Twitter’s media strategy closer to the mold of Facebook and Snapchat. Weil led the development of Moments, a content product Twitter released in the fall.
