Troutbeck Named ABC Chairman

Robert Troutbeck succeeds Michael Browner as chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations.

The Schaumburg, IL-based auditor of magazines and newspapers said yesterday that Troutbeck will serve the rest of Browner’s one-year terms. He is eligible for reelection at ABC’s November meeting.

Browner, a former executive director of media and marketing operations at General Motors Corp. and ABC chairman since November 2002, has retired. He continues to serve as a member of the Association of National Advertisers and as a director on the board of Detroit’s Adcraft Club.

Browner’s successor is a Canadian advertising agency veteran. Currently president of Troutbeck Chernoff, Troutbeck previously worked at McCann-Erickson Canada. His Toronto agency is the largest media ad buyer in the Canadian healthcare category.

Troutbeck also has several years’ experience on ABC committees. As chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, he was one of the executives behind the creation of the ABC newspaper Reader Profile Service. He served as chair of ABC’s annual conference, too.
